He angitūtanga: The opportunityLifeguard | West Wave Pool and Leisure Centre (Henderson)Auckland Council's Pools and Leisure has opportunities for Lifeguard positions at our busy West Wave Pool and Leisure Centre (Henderson).Working as a lifeguard is an opportunity for you to make a real difference in the community. Lifeguards are the key to ensuring a safe environment for our customers and are essential to the successful running of our aquatic facilities.As a lifeguard, you are responsible for:
  • Provide a safe environment through proactive supervision and positive interaction with customers
  • Educate and enforce pool rules
  • Respond to any First Aid emergencies
  • Ensure pool and surrounds are clean at all times
16 hour position:
  • Tuesday 5-9
  • Thursday 5-9
  • Sunday 10-6.30
The shifts are subject to change according to the roster and the needs of the centre, so flexibility is essential.Our centre operates from 6:00 am - 7:00 pm on weekends and 5:30 am - 09:30 pm on weekdays; the ability to work early night, late night, and weekends is crucial.He kōrero mōu: About youWe are looking for strong swimmers of all ages, who are dedicated to helping others and ensuring a safe, welcoming environment. As a lifeguard, you'll need to stay alert, work well in a team, and provide excellent customer service.You will also need to have a current First Aid Certificate and Pool Lifeguard Practising Certificate (PLPC); however, training will be provided. If you do not have a current First Aid Certificate or Pool Lifeguard Practising Certificate, you will need to attend a 2-week training course from 10th Nov to 21st Nov (Weekdays 8:30am - 4:00pm) at CBD and West Wave.The first step in becoming a lifeguard for Auckland Council is passing the swim test, which consists of:
  • Swim 200m in less than 6 minutes (Any stroke, or a mixture of strokes, can be used)
  • Swim 50m breaststroke
  • Swim 25m sidestroke
  • Retrieve objects from the deepest part of the pool (depth varies across centres)
  • Tread water for 5 minutes
