Success for us is millions of people using Tradify across the world.The Software Development Manager is responsible for the technical design and execution of projects and people management of a small group of direct reports. Based on provided priorities and strategic planning activities, you will be responsible for overseeing a number of development squads, collaborating with other Development Managers on development processes and delivery velocity; and ensuring the uptime and stability of production infrastructure remains consistently best in class.You will take a hands-on approach, leading a number of small squads within the engineering team from the front, you will be involved in the day-to-day running of the team while also being involved in strategy and priority discussions. Whilst you won’t be an individual code contributor day to day, you will still be capable of understanding, reviewing and approaching code.We’ve got huge aspirations for the Engineering team and lots of interesting challenges we want help with, from technology stacks and architecture to hiring and reviewing and improving processes as we go through large team growth.If you thrive on critical thinking, a relentless pursuit of building awesome customer and developer experiences, and ultimately helping people succeed, you’re going to fit right in.Requirements
  • Code Quality - Ensure that we write good code. Bug-free, maintainable, and consistent with appropriate levels of technical debt.
  • Software Development Processes - Ensure we follow industry standards and best practices for software development, and be responsible for tools and processes. In conjunction with the QA Manager ensure code is developed and released quickly to production with appropriate amounts of testing.
  • Architecture & Infrastructure - Ensure that we have sufficient and appropriate infrastructure for the platform to run on and that we build features with architectural patterns that support appropriate levels of scalability, reliability, resilience, and security. Be responsible for day-to-day architecture choices and oversee proof of concepts where relevant.
  • Project Prioritization: Balance a variety of concurrent work streams, allocating work to developers, estimating timeframes and communicating priorities across the full software development lifecycle.
  • Production Infrastructure & Support: Manage production resources including backups, uptime, monitoring, costs and oversee triage and resolution of urgent production issues.
  • Team: Lead, build, grow and maintain a high-performing team. Culture, work ethic, development ownership, accountability and recruitment aligned with Tradify values. This includes delegating tasks, overseeing day-to-day operations, monitoring team performance, and providing coaching and development.
