Learn to Swim Instructor | West Wave HendersonHere at Auckland Council, our leisure centres play a key role in achieving our goal of making Auckland the most active city in the world. And right now, we're looking for Learn to Swim Instructors to join our West Wave Henderson Team to help achieve that goal!This is a fantastic job where you don't need any formal qualifications or experience to apply-just a passion to work with our diverse community while also making a difference! We'll provide the training you need to succeed in the role.Day-to-day you could expect to work on:
  • Teaching babies and toddlers the basic principles of how to swim (we'll teach you how to do this!)
  • Maintaining a fun, caring and safe environment for customers and visitors
  • Being part of an amazing team serving your local community
We have two exciting opportunities available:
  • 1 x Fixed Term part time Position (until June 2026) - Wednesdays 3:15-7:15pm & Sundays 12:30-4:30pm
This position focuses on working with babies, toddlers, and preschool-aged children, so experience in infant care and early learning is beneficial.

He kōrero mōu: About youThe fixed-term role is all about nurturing confidence and joy in the water for our littlest swimmers. You'll be working closely with babies, toddlers, and preschool-aged children, helping them feel safe, supported, and excited to learn. If you have a gentle approach and a passion for early childhood development, this is a beautiful opportunity to make a splash in their learning journey.For the causal position, you will be working with any age group, you'll be a confident swimmer and an enthusiastic instructor with a genuine love for water and working with people. Exceptional customer service and clear communication skills are essential, as you'll be engaging with families and the wider community.If you do have a recognised swim teacher qualification or previous experience as a Swimming Instructor, that'd be fantastic. However, we will provide full, comprehensive training that you need to excel in the job.If you do not have a recognised swim teacher qualification, e.g. AUSTSWIM, you will be required to attend the following two-week training between dates for training to be - 22 sept 25 - 3 October (training)To be considered for this role, you must also be willing to complete First Aid training.Ngā āhuatanga kei a mātou: What we offer.As a Learn to Swim Instructor, you'll have free access to our facilities, hours that provides work and life balance, and above all else a fun, supportive team.
